4 Easy Steps to Print from Your Phone or Tablet

Printing from your mobile device is easier than ever, with Wi-Fi-enabled printers and handy apps on most devices to print just about anything with the click of a button.

Here’s what you will need to know to get your devices set up for easy printing from your smartphone or tablet.

1.   Install by Type

Install AirPrint for iOS devices to print your documents or photos. For Android users, you will need Google Cloud Print.

AirPrint is built into all current and recent Apple devices; it works with most apps on your device from which you may wish to print. To access it, follow these steps:

  • Open the app you want to print from.
  • Tap app’s “Share” icon to find the Print option.
  • Tap Print.
  • Tap Select Printer and choose an AirPrint-enabled printer.
  • Choose the number of copies or other options, such as which pages you want to print.
  • Tap Print in the upper right corner.

Cloud Print may not come preinstalled on your Android device, so if you don’t already have it, search for it in the Google Play app and click “Install,” so it’s ready to go on your device.

2.   Connect to Wi-Fi

You first will need to make sure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer. This may require some setup on your printer if you have never printed wirelessly before.

When you print from mobile devices, your printer will need to be compatible with the printing tool you are using. Luckily, most major brands and printer models work with Google Cloud Print as well as with Apple’s AirPrint.

3.   Add Your Printer

Android users may need to add their printer to Google Cloud Print before printing.

Using Google Chrome, take the following steps:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select “Show advanced settings.”
  • Under the Google Cloud Print heading, click Manage, then “Add printers.”
  • Find your printer and add it to Cloud Print for easy mobile printing.

For Apple users, find out if your printer comes with AirPrint by checking Apple’s support page for a list of compatible printers. If you see yours on the printers list, your printer is already connected and ready to go.

4.   Find Your File to Print

Next, open the document you want to print from your iOS or Android. If you are printing a file from within an app, such as your email or the iOS Photos app, open the file.

On iOS, find the arrow symbol to open up sharing options and tap Print. If your printer is not automatically selected as the default, you can choose it manually. Then choose your printing options and print your file.

On Android, tap the menu button (three dots) at the top-right of your screen, then tap Print. Next, tap the drop-down arrow and select the printer you want to print from, then hit Print.
